Why does my porch need a screen enclosure?

Why does my porch need a screen enclosure?

The great outdoors offers some much-needed connection to nature as well as a good dose of natural Vitamin D. When sitting out on the porch or gazebo, however, one may overlook the difference a screen enclosure can really make. This type of outdoor extension adds many great benefits that many homeowners enjoy.

Protects from outdoor elements

There are numerous elements that interfere with your short time of being outdoors, such as dealing with unwanted insects while you are trying to cook on the grill or simply relaxing. With a screen enclosure, there is no more need to swat flies away or deal with pollen allergies. The design of the screen enclosure allows each structured pillar or wall to safely and securely cling to the screen without any damage to the surface. Installation is fast and easy and best of all, very affordable.

Provides shade

How many times have you gone outside and realized you forgot your sunglasses or neglected to put on sunscreen? Maybe more times than you can recall! Adding a screen enclosure to your back patio or outdoor area provides a great amount of shade keeping you cool during those unseasonably warm months while still being able to enjoy the natural light of the sun. Best of all, it is safe to use around kids and your furry friends will enjoy the shade as well.

No-fuss concept

Adding another door to divide the space between your backyard and patio would defeat the purpose of a screen enclosure and completely block your view and any entryway to go to and from between spaces. A screen enclosure provides a no-fuss concept with an easy pull and push mechanism to go past the other side. There is also no maintenance required on your end and the screen is weatherproof.

Keeps the area dry

When having guests over, a little rain can sometimes change plans rather quickly. Having a screen enclosure helps keep the patio area dry so you won’t have to relocate your guests elsewhere in the house. It also helps keep water from rain and heavy winds from getting access to your outdoor furniture and allowing them to fly away. As always, it is recommended to buy outdoor furniture and rugs that are water-resistant, however, as the screen can only act as a barrier and not actually protect it from the water itself.

Aside from screen enclosures looking nice, they are rather long-lasting. The mesh material is very sturdy and, if installed properly, will get you a good year’s worth of limited warranty.

Do seamless gutter need maintenance ?

Do seamless gutter need maintenance if the home doesn’t have any trees in the yard? This is a very good question that is asked to me often. First off I want to tell you all seamless gutters need to be checked periodically but some more than others. Since starting in the business 29 years ago the biggest problem I have seen is gutters clogged up with various objects. Homeowners would not have any trees in their yard but the gutters would be stopped up with leaves. You ask how is this possible, well if your neighbors or any property within a 1000 feet of the home have trees then this could be the issue. If a storm comes and blows the leaves or debris and it lands on your roof then there is a very good chance it will get in your seamless gutters. A good rule of thumb is if you have leaves in your yard from your neighbors trees then you probably have them in your gutters. We have even found tennis balls, birds nest, snakes, baseballs, gloves, and lots of roof granules.

We at Bluewater Exteriors do yearly service of seamless gutters to make sure they are working properly. We check to make sure they are draining to the downpouts, free from any debris, and don’t have any major corrosion or leaks. We service all of south Baldwin from Spanish Fort, Daphne, Fairhope and down to the Gulf at Orange Beach and Gulf Shores and Foley. A yearly maintenance plan could definitely save you thousand from all kinds of damage. Call us to learn more about protecting your home.

Why Seamless Gutters are important for your home

When meeting with our customers, their number one question they ask is “Why are all these homes without Seamless Gutters?” We’ll it is honestly a great question, and I hear it about twice a day. Gutters have been around for hundreds of years but the first seamless gutter machines were designed in the 1960’s. My father bought his first seamless gutter machine in the 1970’s. So the lack of not having the equipment to do the job is not the issue. I believe in my own opinion, the lack of seamless gutters in Baldwin County is due to lack of education of the damage it does to the home. Most builders but not all would rather build a new home and invest the money that the seamless gutters cost in the kitchen or master bath to help sell the home. Seamless Gutters aren’t glamorous but they are definitely a very important part of moving water away from your foundation. Over the years I have seen numerous damage due to the lack of seamless gutters.
In other parts of the country gutters are part of a new construction or a remodel, its just insurance on the home. The purpose of seamless gutters is to move the roof water off the overhang and away from the foundation to prevent damage. Most homes with basements can see what not moving water away from the foundation can do. But for homes on a concrete slabs most water damage is not seen until its too late. One example was a homeowner that built a concrete slab home in 2006 on flat farm land with no seamless gutters and no drainage away from the home. About ten years later they had major cracks in their living room where water was even coming up through. The home had settled so much at the foundation it caused major cracks in the slab. Building the home up and installing seamless gutters to move the water away would have prevented the expensive repair. Baldwin County has a lot of new homes built on flat farm land without any drainage. Seamless Gutters are definitely a must in our area.
The average yearly rainfall in Mobile is 67 inches. That is in the top five in the whole United States. That is a lot of water coming off you home and dumping against your foundation. Seamless Gutters also help to keep your landscaping from getting damage and the washing away. Each year homeowners spend thousands of dollars on landscaping and to have it get damaged and washed away is definitely throwing your money away. Seamless gutters also help to prevent mold, mildew and fungus in areas where there is a lack of sunlight on your home.
Termites in our area are also a big problem. Any pest control company would advise their customers that terminates like water and to get the water away from your home would definitely help slow the activity of terminates. Also any brick steps or concrete driveways and sidewalks would benefit from keeping the roof water off them. Over time water off the roof washes out the mortar between the brick steps and causes the rocks to surface on the concrete.
So that is just a little education on how the lack of seamless gutters can damage your home but there is many more reasons. We have been in this industry for years and without any doubt believe seamless gutters will help prevent some of the things I have shared with you. If you would like more info please don’t hesitate to call or message me. Now use this education and get those seamless gutters installed.

Investing in a seamless gutter system is an effective way to prevent water damage. Compared with the traditional sectional type of gutter system, its seamless design keeps the chances of roof leakage to a minimum.

Let Bluewater Exteriors reveal what makes seamless gutters a great addition to your home for structural and aesthetic reasons:

They Don’t Form Ridges

One of the things we love about seamless gutters is that they don’t create ridges along the bottom, which form niches on the inside. These shallow recesses back up small amounts of water and trap tiny debris that can turn into blockages. There’s no way for sectional pieces to avoid this problem altogether since they have to be sealed with one another to make straight shots of metal.

Seamless gutters create no ridges because they’re unmarred throughout. They are comprised of single sheets of metal stretched around corners, directing the water to travel from the roof to the ground without detouring to any cranny.

They Have Fewer Gaps

It should be noted that the seamless gutter system isn’t completely seamless. Its pieces of unmarred metal requires seams on both sides of the corner. Despite this, its design dramatically reduces the number of gaps between pieces. In turn, there’s less need for sealants that ultimately wear away over time. Faulty sealants are the common culprit behind leaky gutters.

They Use Screws For Fastening

Many seamless gutter products don’t need nails. For instance, our gutter system only requires hidden hangers for fastening. Contrary to nails, screws don’t put perforations in the face of the gutter and are less likely to loosen with time.

At Bluewater Exteriors, our seamless gutters are made from aluminum to be durable and lightweight.

Should you install gutter guards?

When it comes to home improvement, your gutters are probably low on your list of things to upgrade or protect. But a Gutter Guard is important to helping keep your home in tip-top shape, especially when you live in areas with a lot of rain or extreme weather conditions. So before you replace that roof or spend thousands on a pretty yard, take a closer look at your gutters and see if you could benefit from some Gutter Guards.

Why should you? Well:

1. Ladder climbing is a thing of the past

Did you know that every year over 150,000 people fall from ladders and around 300 die? So before you make that climb with your rake and hose, you may want to think carefully about your options. A Leaf-Blocker Gutter Guard system is a great alternative, allowing you to keep your back pain-free.

2. Keep an unshakable foundation

Your foundation is the most important part of your home. Though it may seem indestructible, water damage can cause your homes foundation to crumble and crack. A gutter guard system will help avoid long-term damage to your foundation by diverting water away from it.

3. You work hard on your yard

If you invest lots of money and time on your yard and landscaping, don’t ruin it by letting your gutters overflow, causing a soupy mess.

4. Avoid standing water and West Nile Virus

Standing water is dangerous for a number of reasons. Bacteria can grow and multiply in this environment. The West Nile Virus showed us how mosquitoes can transmit the disease to humans. Don’t let your gutters turn into a science experiment.

5. Extend the life of your existing gutters and pocket that cash

Replacing your gutters is costly expense. Even if yours are less than new, installing a Gutter Guard system can cut down on costly repairs. Gutters that are packed with debris will weaken spikes and hidden hangers causing gutter failure sooner. Gutter Protection will keep your gutters clean and working properly, prolonging their life. It’s never too late to protect an existing gutter.
